Finals

Let me start by wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year! I hope everyone had a lovely holiday season. My final project lined up with the week of the holidays.

We had to design an open Kitchen and Dining Room, and a Bathroom for a young couple, in a federal style row house. They wanted to keep the design transitional, including some federal elements to represent the period of the house, but also have some modern conveniences.

Here is what we did for the Kitchen:

Materials:

For both of the spaces we used subtle period details. We started with a federal color scheme and built it from there. The nobs in the kitchen are from the period, as well as the leg detail on the built in table. This room has character through the unique details, and the cabinetry elements that I won't bore you with.

And now for the Bathroom:
Axonametric (just another 3D view):

Bathroom Materials:

For the Bathroom, we used a similar color scheme, but we romanticized it, using a darker black, and medium stained wood, with gold elements. The flooring matches the subway tile surround but in a 12"x12" tile instead. The color doesn't come through quite right on the screen, but the tile is a white quartz with swirls of gold shimmering through it. We added custom shelves to fit around the tub, to add more storage, then stained them to match the vanity we refurbished for the room.

I think both spaces came together very nicely.

Happy 2012, filled with fresh designs, and lovely spaces! Please feel free to comment or let me know if there is a specific concern you would like me to address in the new year!
