First and foremost, let me apologize for my brief hiatus! I have been carried away with work, a few consulting jobs, and classes.
Here is one of those jobs. I recently worked with a family on their kids' rooms, as well as their play room. Here is the info on the boys' room:
They previously had 2 beds, an over-sized bookcase (taking up an entire wall) and no real surface space for school work to be done. (I don't have any before pictures to post as the parents requested their children not end up in the blogosphere, and they managed to get into all of the before photos.)
Here is what we ended up with:
The humongous bookshelf was replaced with a taller skinnier one, in a fabulous shade of dark blue.
We added not 1, but 2 desks, this way both boys have their own work space (what 6-year-old likes to share with his little brother?) and they also have their own storage space for special toys, or other items.
We used baskets in a variety of shapes, colors, and materials for organization and storage.
And a fun floppy rug to cozy it all up.
The color scheme was pulled out of their monochromatic duvet cover from Dwell Studios. We mixed painted pieces and natural wood pieces throughout the space. It should be a space they can grow in. I'm sure they will ultimately want their own rooms, but for now, space is an issue, and they have to share, so we have made the most of it to make it as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.
