For the Love of a Building

The Empire State Building that is.

Built between 1929 and 1931, the Empire State Building is one of New York City's iconic structures.

If you are a tourist, heading to the isle of Manhattan, you probably have it on your "must see" list. On a rainy day like today, you may not venture to the top for lack of a view, but there are certainly other reasons to venture in.

The building has a rich history detailed in beautiful art-deco details.

Clockwise from top left: elevator doors, interior light fixture, herringbone marble floor detail, and exterior facade.

And it is overall just a nice place to see first hand. Almost five years ago now, I went with my parents to see it, and check out the top.

Clockwise from left (all on the observation deck): me, my mom giving me a smooch, and my mom and Mr. Jay smooching. (Love these!!)

As you can see, we had a really great time!

Is there a particular building or skyline you love? Let me know, maybe I will check it out and report back.

Happy touring!

  1. Love those smoochy photos!!

One of my favorite buildings is the Rotunda at UVA. Takes my breath away, even though back in the day, I passed it probably 10 times a week or more. I also really love my father's childhood home, which was open to the public last time I checked.
