Local-Global Inspiration

The other day, I stopped at the local Starbucks, and was very pleased with what I found.

They had made some minor renovations since the last time I had been to this location and created a little studying/work alcove with a gorgeous table, light fixtures, and a focal point design on the wall with a beautiful message.

An overall view of the space.

Their accompanying message:

  • This wall is made from wood repurposed from a Starbucks store in New York. (aka-repurposed locally.)
  • The wainscoting and millwork in the store is made from bamboo, a rapidly renewable resource.
  • This store was painted with low VOC pain to improve the air quality around you. (VOC = volatile organic compound)
  • The table behind you is made from standing deadwood.

The aforementioned table in all of it's natural beauty:

Starbucks' overall message (it should become a mantra): "Shared Planet"

Shared Planet: You and Starbucks. It's bigger than coffee.

Sustainability is something that I feel so strongly about. It is so important, yet its importance doesn't get nearly enough attention. I was thrilled to see that a company, especially one with a global presents, is taking steps to be 'green.' Not to mention, the overall space is aesthetically appealing too!

Way to go Starbucks!

Happy Sustainability!

  1. Beautiful!! I hope my local Bux will get a green makeover soon.

  2. Hmmm - I wonder if they are doing remodels like that around here. I'm going to send a link to your blog to CM who you met at the office - you know, the one who wouldn't call me if his office was on fire!

Nice post - but you should check your spelling. Yes - I can say something because you're making a living of this blog - I'm not with mine ;) Love you kiddo! g
